We support adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in and around Harford County, MD. As of the 2020 census, over 18,000 people living in Harford County have disabilities. According to Harford County Public Schools, over 5,600 students are currently receiving disability services, with 142 enrolled in Harford Academy. While our public school system does an excellent job of educating our county’s students of all abilities, there are fewer resources available to adults. That’s where The Harford Center comes in.
The Harford Center is set apart from other service providers in a number of ways:
- We only support adults.
- We are fully local. We do not operate under a broader, multi-region organization’s umbrella. Everyone we serve lives in Harford County or the surrounding areas.
- Over 60% of the people we serve live with family rather than in group living or residential facilities. Many of our families are very involved with our organization.
- The Harford Center serves people of all abilities. We support people in paid employment and volunteer work, we support people who are medically fragile and require assistance with all Activities of Daily Living, and we support people whose abilities and needs fall everywhere in between.
