There is something unique about the Harford Center that is difficult to put into words. However, if you have been here, know our staff, or our participants, you know what I mean. It is difficult to quantify a feeling of belonging, compassion, and fun. The Harford Center isn’t just location or an organization; it is a community. A community of families, other organizations, business partners, staff, and friends. Like other non-profits, the Harford Center has a volunteer group of Board of Directors from all walks of life with unique talents and trades. However, our Board isn’t like others. On our Board, we have parents of people with disabilities, people with disabilities, a participant member, varied professionals, community members, and business associates. What makes us unique is that our Board really understands what drives our mission.
Our Board members are at the Center, in the community, volunteering, and fundraising. Our members hold our agency to the highest standard. As a result of this mission-driven, vision-orientation, we are all moving in the right direction together. Everyone at the Harford Center wants the best experience for our participants and the community in which we live. From the Board of Directors to our staff, there is something unique here. In a time where there is a workforce crisis and high rates of burnout, the Harford Center continues to understand the value of its staff and volunteers. We never lose sight of how critical every person is at the Harford Center. Everyone plays an important role, and together we are strong. While there are continued challenges concerning funding, COVID, and staff shortages, the Harford Center, at its core, is resilient.
